Sacred Cacao
Cacao is a sacred medicine gifted to the Bribri & Cabécar peoples from before the beginning of time, and is integral to our worldview, philosophy and spirituality. We offer to you Cacao sourced from the hands of a Cacao spiritual leader, in the role of TsirúTami, who has sewn, produced, harvested, fermented, dried and blessed the sacred seeds.
Proceeds from the sale of this cacao go back into the circular economy of our community, supporting leaders to continue their important work.
TsirúTami
Within Bribri and Cabécar culture, we maintain the role of TsirúTami, women who hold a spiritual authority related to customs and traditions, healing processes and ceremonial cacao practices.
The figure of the TsirúTami is extremely important because without her it would not be possible to carry out any type of ceremony, ritual, or healing, as all involve cacao as a divine mandate from before the beginning of time.
A TsirúTami works on behalf of the collective wellbeing, as the carrier of the medicine of cacao, and passing on knowledge from generation to generation.
Farming Practices
Our cacao is single-origin sourced and produced in the ancestral way within a traditional Bribri farm, fully organic, and utilizing growing techniques that systems such as permaculture source their methods. Most of the work of tending to the cacao is done by the family of the TsirúTami, who then hand selects which cacao is utilized.
By purchasing this cacao you are supporting our ancestral traditions and the TsiruTami and her family, allowing them to continue to focus their time on the spiritual responsibilities of their clan.

Se Siwá Cacao is single-origin produced in small batches and therefore we do not always have consistent supply. When supply exists, we will sell to customers through the following channels and usually make an announcement on our Instagram account (@sesiwa_):

Ceremonial Grade
We choose to not use this marketing term for our cacao, as from the Bribri & Cabécar cultural perspective, there are many factors that go into whether cacao can be used ceremonially, mainly related to the presence of various spiritual charges (masters), without whom a ceremony utilizing cacao could not be conducted, in addition to very specific cultural protocol around the preparation of the cacao. In reference to how the world describes “ceremonial grade" cacao, our cacao far exceeds this standard.
