Kriok Mountain Hike & Swim
Details
Location: Se Siwá Eco Lodge
Duration: Approx. 2 hrs, 2km
Difficulty: Easy, with some steep uneven ground
Group Size: 1-10
Cost: 20,000 Colones (1 person) + 5,000 Colones per additional person
This walk begins just behind Se Siwá Eco Lodge, entering the primary forest of Kriok mountain and ascending approximately 500 meters to meet a towering grandfather tree that has stood for centuries. Along the way we will interpret the sounds of the jungle, point out medicinal and edible plants, and share the cultural relationships between animals, plants, and the Bribri & Cabécar people
On our way back down, we stop to meet an ancient grandmother Ceiba tree before arriving back at the Lodge. We will then walk the road down through the small community of Monte Sion to the local creek that has a swimming hole where we can immerse in the fresh primary forest waters. After swimming, we will walk back up to the Lodge.
Durinak Path
Details
Location: River crossing at Suretka and then 20 minute community shuttle
Duration: Approx. 6 hrs (if departing from & returning to the Lodge)
Difficulty: Medium. Half the walk is flat, half requires some steep climbing and small hills.

Cost: 50,000 Colones (1 person) + 12,000 Colones per additional person (price will be reduced if bringing your own transportation, contact us for details)
We walk the Durinak Path along the Lari River, one the five largest and most beautiful rivers in the Talamanca primary forest. The Lari River is one of the most sacred rivers of Talamanca, as it begins in Sulayöm, the sacred mountain of the Bribri & Cabécar people. We walk for approximately two hours to where we can cross the river in a cable box (a hand-pulled cable car/gondola across the river) if desired. At this point we will stop to rest and have a snack and then begin the walk back.
Tsiola View Hike
Details

Duration: Approx. 8 hrs (departing from & returning to the Lodge)
Difficulty: Hard. 14 km total. Steep mountain path climbing at points.
Group Size: 1-10
Cost: 134,000 Colones (1 person) + 26,000 Colones per additional person (price will be reduced if bringing your own transportation). Lunch provided. Cost of two night stay at the Lodge + meals not included.
In this experience you will have the opportunity to walk the primary forest and experience one of the most beautiful views in all of Talamanca. It is recommended that you stay at the Lodge the night before (booked separately), to allow an early departure. The next morning after breakfast, we travel to the community of Soki, located at the edge of the Uren River. We begin the 7km trek to the view point (~1100 meter elevation), where a traditional lunch of plantain, traditional roots, rice and local meat will be cooked. After lunch and some rest, we begin the 7km hike down the mountain and end with a refreshing swim in the Uren River. We then begin our trip back to the Lodge.
Alto Uren Trek

Duration: Three days (2 nights)
Difficulty: Hard. 8 hours one direction (13 km), steep mountain path climbing at points.
Group Size: 3 people minimum, 4 four people maximum

The community of Alto Uren is in Arawak, the name used in the Bribri language for the region in Talamanca where our ancestors have most successfully preserved our traditions, language, and culture. It is also known as "Indomitable Talamanca" because of its history of fierce resistance, sacrifice, suffering, and bloodshed.
It’s home to approximately fifteen families and fewer than seventy residents. Reaching the community of Alto Uren requires a hike of more than 8 hours, covering approximately 13 kilometers along a trail through primary, old-growth rainforest. The highest point along the route rises to just over 1,100 meters (3,600 feet) above sea level.
Halfway through the journey, visitors arrive at what is one of the finest viewpoints in all of Talamanca, offering a magical panorama of the Arawak (Talamanca) Valley.
This experience is intended for people who genuinely respect cultural diversity and different spiritual traditions. This journey will give you a glimpse into our philosophy of life — one rooted in deep respect for the many beings, spirits, and the natural elements with whom we share these mountains.
Throughout the experience, you will have the opportunity to encounter the generosity, wisdom, and dignity that characterize Indigenous life and culture in Talamanca. We will sleep in the house of a local family on the floor, experiencing the same conditions that the community lives in. You will experience the resilience, traditions, living culture and language with full immersion in community and jungle life. We will spend two nights in Alto Uren, and return back on the third day.
