Ancestral Games
Details
Location: Se Siwá Eco Lodge
Duration: Approx. 1 hr
Minimum Age: 7+
Group Size: 1-10
Cost: 15,000 Colones (1-6 people) + 5,000 per additional person
Ancestral games are traditional games that have been played and passed down from generation to generation by indigenous peoples. They encourage cooperation, respect and learning of cultural values. In this activity, you will have the opportunity to learn and try three traditional Bribri games, including:

Archery: Practice using an ancestral bow and banana flower target, and learn the history and uses of archery and proper technique.

Rope Pulling: The game involves attempting to pull your side of the rope across a middle line, with the objective to bring the other side across the line to win.

Spearing: Using a spear made from ancestral materials, practice hitting a target, and learn the history and use of the spearing for hunting and defending.
Basket Weaving

This workshop is delivered by a local expert who will teach the ancestral method for making baskets. Baskets are very useful traditional tools for everyday life. In this workshop you will make your own small natural fibre basket to take home with you.
Traditional Bag Making
Details

Like many indigenous peoples, the Bribri and Cabécar peoples have a weaving tradition using organic and inorganic fibres to make bags for carrying personal or medicinal items. In this workshop you will learn how to make your own personal cross-body bag from natural, organic and ancestral materials using the traditional Bribri & Cabécar method.
Painting with a Master Local Painter
Details
Location: Se Siwá Eco Lodge
Duration: Approx. 3 hrs
Group Size: 1-10
Cost: 50,000 Colones (1 person) + 20,000 per additional person + 20,000 Colones for translation (Spanish to English) (if needed)
With local master Cabécar painter, Gerald Solis from the Koktuwak clan, you will learn to paint an ancestral indigenous concept such as a cosmological symbol, plant or animal from Bribri & Cabécar oral tradition, while receiving teachings about the philosophy behind the concept.
